Nicholas Patricca's Oh, Holy Allen Ginsburg, Oh Holy-Shit-Sweet-Jesus-Tantric-Buddha-Dharma-Road! is directed by Bailiwick's Artistic Director David Zak. After its Bailiwick run, the show will be featured in the Dublin Gay Theater Festival in May. Oh, Holy Allen Ginsberg is a serious comedy regarding the struggle of a Catholic priest to balance his faith and priesthood with his 9-year relationship with Josh Kaplan, a University Professor.
In a fiscally challenged parish in contemporary Chicago, Fr Gerard Gallagher juggles the demands of the Archdiocese and the needs of his parishioners with the contradictions in his own life as a gay priest. Through the loving friendship of Leonor, his housekeeper, and of Scott, a poet dying of AIDS, Fr Gerry lives out dramatically the question of how the individual can live creatively and authentically in spite of all the contradictions inherent in his person and in our society today. When Michael, a brash young nurse/performance artist, re- enters the life of Josh his college teacher, the wheels are set in motion for an enlightening and entertaining evening that examines the soul and affirms the resilience of the human spirit.
