Steep Theatre Company presents the artful comedy, Insignificance, by award-winning British playwright, Terry Johnson. Company member Brad Akin directs.

The play posits a meeting of the minds of four 1950's icons - sex symbol Marilyn Monroe, baseball hero Joe DiMaggio, prosecutorial politician Joseph McCarthy, and scientific genius Albert Einstein. Trapped in a hotel room, these archetypes are forced to confront and demystify the fame - and, in the case of McCarthy, infamy - that history has accorded them.

Fusing fact and fantasy, the plot unravels an unlikely romance between the bombshell and the scientist while challenging stereotypes of the all-star athlete and hate-mongering politician. Less reality than a reflection of our persistent fascination with the genius, sex appeal, and perversion of four overpowering personalities, Insignificance explores the meaning of truth, knowledge, and integrity in a world that values celebrity over virtue. Intimate, private moments prove to be the most meaningful of all while our greatest icons participate in their own unmasking. The self-revelations of these larger-than-life characters both inform and amaze.
