WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Galileo, Galilei is an irresistible combination - America's most celebrated composer, Philip Glass, and the Goodman's endlessly inventive Manilow Resident Director, Mary Zimmerman, blending their talents to paint the life of the brilliant but flawed genius that was Galileo. Glass, a pioneer of minimalist music, is a true renaissance man, composing for theater, opera, sympony, dance, and film.
Opening night is Monday, June 24 at 7:00pm. There are Tuesday performances at 8:00pm on July 2, 9, and 16. There are no performances on Wednesday, July 3, or Thursday, July 4. There are 2:00pm matinees on Wednesdays, June 27 and July 11, and Saturdays, July 6 and 20.

Whether staged simply with a few oriental rugs (The Arabian Nights) or with lavish scenery and costumes (Journey to the West), Zimmerman's work strikes a harmonious balance of color, movement, music, spoken word, dance and design, drawing on a wide range of Western, Middle Eastern and Asian classical sources. Her latest effort, Galileo Galilei, is a 90-minute opera written with composer Phil[...]
