WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The desert is on fire. It's being consumed by fury as Electricidad, burning with hatred, keeps vigil by her murdered father's corpse. She longs for the sweet revenge that will set his spirit free. When her brother Orestes returns from exile, Electricidad's anger explodes, consuming everything in its path and leading her family to a final shattering confrontation. Subtitled "a Chicano take on Sophocles' Electra," Electricidad crackles with intensity, and transforms a 2000-year-old text into a vibrant, vital and thoroughly unforgettable myth for the modern age.

Few classics have spawned more offspring than Euripides' tragedy Electra, which has been interpreted by Voltaire, Richard Strauss, and Eugene O'Neill, among others. Now the great tale of revenge and matricide is given a Latino slant in Electricidad by Luis Alfaro, the literary polymath (poet, playwright, short story writer, solo performer) perhaps best known for his plays Straight as a Line and Bitter Homes and Gardens.
The original tale is set after the Trojan War. Electra and Orestes are the grown children of King Agamemnon and Queen Clytemnestra. When Clytemnestra and her lover murder Agamemnon and seize the throne, Electra persuades the long-exiled but now returned Orestes to slaughter [...]
