Bailiwick Repertory Theatre will present Dennis DeYoung's musical version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame as part of its 2007-2008 season, in addition to three other musicals.
The season will kick off with Zanna, Don't! (September 26-November 4, opening October 1). Featuring a book, music and lyrics by Tim Acito, the musical is set in Heartsville, USA - a town where the normal social structure is completely flipped with homosexuality as the norm and heterosexuality as the love that dare not speak its name.
The season will continue with Bare (December 7- January 27, opening December 10). This dramatic musical explores the impact of family and church on American youth. Peter and Jason find joy in each other's companionship but watch their lives spin out of control after their affair becomes public. The show's book was written by John Hartmere and Damon Intrabartolo, with music by Intrabartolo and lyrics by Hartmere. Bailiwick's artistic director, David Zak, will direct.
Up next will be A Man of No Importance (March 13- April 20, opening on St. Patrick's Day, March 17). The show explores the life of a bus conductor in Dublin and his road to self-discovery. It has a book by Terrence McNally and a score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.
Finally, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (May 8-July 6, opening May 19) will close out the season. Former Styx rocker Dennis DeYoung ("Come Sail Away," "Mr. Roboto") uses soaring ballads to buttress the classic love triangle between a gypsy, a priest, and the deformed bell-ringer of the world's most beloved cathedral.
