WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Money, addiction, jazz, nerves, forbidden love, impending doom and biting wit frame the play that made Noël Coward, known for his classics Private Lives and Hay Fever sparkles in this rarely produced comic drama that made him an overnight sensation and launched one of the greatest playwrights in the English language. Chicago's newest classical theatre, the Dead Writers Theatre Collective, presents Noël Coward's The Vortex, a play about sexual vanity, narcissism and drug abuse in the upper English classes during the roaring 20s. Nicky Lancaster, a role created by and which made Noël Coward an overnight star, comes home from Paris in 1925 with a cocaine addiction to discover that his middle-aged mother, long past her prime, has taken a lover his own age. Dead Writers Theater Collective's award-winning Artistic Director Jim Schneider directs, Kaelen Strouse and Bonnie Hilton star. Do not miss this rarely produced production! From the glorious costumes to the Art Deco set and, of course, the story and words by the one and only Noël Coward!
