WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Illinois Shakespeare Festival will present three productions in repertory; A Midsummer Nights Dream, Richard III, and Scapin. With delightful comedy, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (Opening June 25) rolls through a forest magically alive with wild faireis and mixed-up lovers when Hermia runs off to escape an arranged marraige with Demitrius, who is pursued by Helena. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Shakespeare's Richard III (Opening July 16) tells the tale of absolute power and the obsessive man willing to kill anyone and anything to get it. Follow the deformed Duke of Gloucester and his crafted plan to eliminate his family and take over the most powerful seat in the land, and those who would dare get in his way. This production of Scapin (Opening June 26) is an adaptation of Moliere's farce by Bill Irwin and Mark O'Donnell. In the show, the impulsive young Octave falls madly in love with the impoverished Hyacinthe when his father is out of town. When his father returns, he is determined to marry Octave to the foreign-born daughter of Geronte, Octave turns in desperation to the clever and mischievous servant Scapin for help.
