After many long years in the "cruel stalemate" of the Trojan War, a prophecy predicts Greek victory with the bow of Hercules and the son of Achilles. Odysseus and Achilles' son Neoptolemus return to the island where years before the Greeks abandoned the warrior Philoctetes with a terrible wound in his foot, and Hercules' bow in his hand. As he follows orders to trick Philoctetes out of the bow, young Neoptolemus must choose between mercy and duty, between what he owes his people, and what he owes his own humanity.
