The Book of Liz takes place in the quaint Squeamish community of Cluster Haven, known for its delicious cheese balls. Sister Elizabeth Donderstock, who makes the cheese balls by hand from her own special recipe, is feeling unappreciated and decides to leave the sheltered religious group to try her luck in the outside world. She strikes up an unlikely friendship with a Ukrainian immigrant and begins her new life in a pancake house, while back at Cluster Haven, sales of the cheese balls begin to slip, the community's survival is threatened, and rumors of sabotage abound!
