WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Black Ensemble Theater founder and artistic director Jackie Taylor stars as Ethel Waters in Sweet Mama Stringbean (The Story of Ethel Waters). The show chronicles Waters' life from her days in vaudeville to becoming the first black female entertainer given equal billing with her white co-stars on Broadway to earning two Academy Award nominations and ultimately distancing herself from her more "militant" friends and associates in show business.
Preview performances are Friday, May 17 at 8:00pm and Saturday, May 18 at 3:00pm. Tickets are $25.
