This is Stephen Sondheim's Pulitizer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park with George. The musical uses inspiration from Georges Seurat's pointillist painting "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte," the Art Institute's most famous painting. Because this musical play requires the painting to be represented on stage and to come to life, Director Rick Frendt will be using technology, animation and projection (plus real-live actors!) to create the masterpiece. Seven 10,000 watt projectors will help create the work of art. While similar techniques have been used on Broadway, this is the first time Chicagoland audiences will have the c hance to experience the inspiring musical in this way.
