WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Shelley MacArthur, who in June 2006 became the first performer in the Auditorium Theatre's cabaret series, returns with a concert of contemporary takes on American standards entitled How Sweet It Is. MacArthur performs an eclectic collection of great songs by Stephen Sondheim, Henry Mancini, Jerry Herman, Sammy Cahn, and Mose Allison that celebrate the "sweetness" and "bittersweetness" of life and love. Known for her signature sophistication and lustrous voice, MacArthur has shared the stage with stars including Mandy Patinkin and Bobby Short, and she opened for Michael Feinstein at Ravinia Festival. Chicago Magazine describes MacArthur as "poised, glamorous, warm, and a real nightingale on stage." The Daily Herald has compared MacArthur's style to such world renowned singers as Lena Horne and Peggy Lee. The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University's "On Stage With..." Summer Cabaret Series offers unique, up-close-and-personal concerts that allow audiences to enjoy the rare experience of sitting on the stage of the legendary Auditorium Theatre while enjoying some of the nation's most talented cabaret stars.
