The townspeople of Fuente Ovejuna take vengeance on their monarch for his cruelty; they kill him and the whole town takes the blame. Based on historical facts during the reign of Fernando and Isabel, playwright Lope de Vega transformed a piece of history and wrote a masterpiece with an entire town as its protagonist
