WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre (CRDT) marks Black History Month 2011 with a spectacular live music and dance performance in its sixth annual "Jubilation" concert series.
The program features the world premiere of 'La Danse Libre" choreographed by CRDT artistic director Wilfredo Rivera to music composed and performed live by Reginald R. Robinson, renowned pianist/composer of ragtime and early jazz, with the 10-piece CRDT Jazz Orchestra. Other selections include "Four Negro Spirituals," "Corner Sketches--A Tribute to Miles Davis," "Summertime," "Black Country," and "Drum Major Instinct: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." all performed by the CRDT Company dancers to live music by the CRDT Jazz Orchestra; and "'Bad Luck Card,' Excerpt from 'Shadow of the Blues'," CRDT's tribute to Langston Hughes, based on his poetry, with original jazz/blues composition by Donald Neale, and choreography by CRDT's Wilfredo Rivera, featuring vocalist Bobbi Wilsyn and the CRDT Youth Ensemble comprised of students from Curie High School and CHIARTS (The Chicago High School for the arts).
