Celestial Harp Strings will feature New Philharmonic's own Kelsey Erdahl as she takes the stage for the world premiere of Doug Lofstrom's Concertino for Harp and Orchestra. Penned by the Chicago Reader as "an aesthetic risk-taker," Erdahl performs Loftstrom's work commissioned by New Philharmonic specifically for her expertise. Erdahl regularly appears with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Symphony of Oak Park River Forest.

Celestial Harp Strings will also highlight two beloved classical treasures of the concert stage, including one of Haydn's best known works, Symphony No. 88 and Tchaikovsky's popular and well-recognized masterpiece, Symphony No. 5.

The New Philharmonic, named 2009 Professional Orchestra of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras, continues its tradition of engaging audience members as musicians will visit with the patrons in the lobby during intermission. The New Philharmonic distributes "Just Ask Kirk" cards to the audience for a post-concert question-and-answer session. Following the performance, audiences and the orchestra members join Muspratt for "Cookies with Kirk" giving the audience an opportunity to meet and interact with the conductor.
