WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

In April 2007, Lookingglass Theatre travels to the interior of Liberia with the story of Liberian soldier Black Diamond. Black Diamond joined the rebel forces of Guinea and Sierra Leone after being assaulted by the notoriously ill-disciplined and unpaid forces loyal to former President Charles Taylor in the northern Lofa River country of northwestern Liberia in 1999. She leads a group of female Liberian rebel fighters into a modern-day, little-known revolution being fought by women who embody courage, personal strife, political vision and rage. Fourteen-year-old rappers armed with AK-47s cry out to be heard by the dismissive world in a story that trumpets the ongoing fight for human rights in the diamond-mining region of Africa, with poignantly biting satirical wit.
