The Tony Award-winning play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike begins its run tonight at the Goodman Theatre. The comedy begins with siblings Vanya and Sonia, who have spent their adult lives tending to their ailing parents at the family’s cottage. Their mundane routine is broken up by their cleaning woman/soothsayer Cassandra, who warns them of impending doom. Shortly after, their self-involved sister Masha arrives. Masha, a movie star who has traveled the world in decadent style, arrives unannounced with her hunky new boyfriend, Spike, and reveals a plan to completely upend the family. In a weekend of "wild costume parties, voodoo dolls, and surprise romance," long suppressed resentments come to a head.

Written by Christopher Durang and directed by Steve Scott, the cast features Janet Ulrich Brooks as Sonia, Jordan Brown as Spike, Rebecca Buller as Nina, E. Faye Butler as Cassandra, Mary Beth Fisher as Masha, and Ross Lehman as Vanya.

The creative team includes Charlie Corcoran (set design), Amy Clark (costume design), Robert Perry (lighting design), Richard Woodbury (sound design), and Alden Vasquez (stage manager).

Performances will run through July 26.
