Chicago's TimeLine Theatre has announced the dates set for the Chicago premiere of Stephen Sachs' Bakersfield Mist. Directed by Kevin Christopher, performances will run from August 19-October 15 with an official August 26 press opening at Stage 773. TimeLine Company Member Janet Ulrich Brooks and TimeLine associate artist Mike Nussbaum will star.

Inspired by a true story, Bakersfield Mist takes a look at what makes art — and people — authentic. Maude, an unemployed bartender living in a trailer park, has bought the ugliest thrift store painting she could get her hands on as a gag gift. However, when she is told that it might in fact be the "find of the century" — an undiscovered work by the famed Jackson Pollock — she invites a world-class art expert to decide if it’s a forgery or the real thing, worth millions.

The play had its world premiere at the Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles in 2011 and was named Best New Play by StageSceneLA. It has since enjoyed a run on London’s West End at the Duchess Theatre starring Kathleen Turner and Ian McDiarmid.

The creative team will include Jeffrey D. Kmiec (scenic design), Jared Gooding (lighting design), Christine Pascual (costume design), Andrew Hansen (sound design), Mary O’Dowd (properties design), and Maren Robinson (dramaturg).
