Goodman Theatre announced Jo Cattell as the recipient of the 2017-18 Michael Maggio Directing Fellowship, an honor reserved for early career Chicago-based theater directors. The fellowship, established in 2002, commemorates the memory of Maggio, the company's associate artistic director who died in 2000.

As directing fellow, Cattell will gain complete access to Goodman's artistic process, including an opportunity to assist on a Goodman production from early research and design, through the casting and rehearsal process, to the opening.

Among previous fellows is Vanessa Stalling, whose new production of Sarah DeLappe's The Wolves is currently running at Goodman Theatre. Cattell's most recent directing credits include Shakespeare in Love at Chicago Shakespeare Theater and Tumbao at Steppenwolf Theatre Company's 1700 Theatre, among others.
