Interrobang Theatre Project Presents Recent Tragic Events

Recent Tragic Events starts performances tonight at The Athenaeum Theatre.
Set in Minneapolis on the evening of September 12, 2001, the show follows Andrew and Waverly, who are on a blind-date. Andrew is an awkward, yet endearing airport bookstore manager, and Waverly is an attractive advertising executive. Their date, however, begins to fall apart as Waverly becomes increasingly frantic to get in touch with her sister, a New York City resident, who hasn’t been seen since 9/11. At stake are questions of fate versus free will, shocking coincidences, and unexpected visits in this existential exploration.
The play was written by Emmy-nominated playwright Craig Wright and is directed by co-artistic director Georgette Verdin. The cast features Ben Apple, Rachel Christianson, Maximillian Lapine, Matthew Nerber, and Laura Berner Taylor.
"More than a play about 9/11, Recent Tragic Events is about what happens to us in the midst of tragedy, when in the blink of an eye, everything becomes an unfamiliar version of itself and we're left to reconcile the need to continue with our lives with the feeling that everything has come to a screeching halt," says Verdin.
The creative team includes Greg Pinsoneault (set design), Noël Huntzinger (costume design), Claire Chrzan (lighting design), Morgan Lake (sound design), Mealah Heidenreich (props design) and Shawn Galligan (stage manager).
Performances will run through April 10.
