The Hypocrites' production of Adding Machine: A Musical starts tonight at The Den Theatre.

In the show, Mr. Zero is exactly what he sounds like: your average, everyday everyman. Discontent with everything from his job to his marriage, he feels abused by fate. In a final indignity, he arrives to another endless day of adding figures for the same company only to find out he has been replaced by a machine. Through the lens of his struggle, the show takes an expressionistic look at murder, salvation, and internalized oppression.

The musical adaptation of Elmer Rice’s play The Adding Machine features music by Joshua Schmidt and book and lyrics by Jason Loewith and Schmidt. This production is directed by Geoff Button, with musical direction by Matt Deitchman and choreography by Katie Spelman.

The cast includes Neala Barron, Bear Bellinger, Tyler Brown, Patrick Du Laney, Andres Enriquez, Kelli Harrington, Laura McClain, John Taflan, and Jonah D. Winston.

The creative team includes Lauren Nigiri (set design), Izumi Inaba (costume design), Mike Durst (lighting design), Joe Court and Brandon Reed (sound design), Eleanor Kahn (properities design), and Justine Palmisano (stage manager).

Adding Machine: A Musical had its world premiere in 2007 at Next Theatre in Evanston, Illinois, then opened off-Broadway in 2008.

Performances of the Hypocrites' production will run through April 24.
