Grand Concourse begins performances tonight at Steppenwolf Theatre. The play tells the story of Shelley, who dedicated her life to religious service and runs her soup kitchen with cool efficiency. While her brisk nature presents a strong front, she is plagued by the secret fear that her efforts are meaningless. The arrival of the rainbow-haired Emma, a college dropout, changes everything. Emma volunteers at the soup kitchen, and her presence forces Shelly to confront the contradiction between her self-involvement and her generosity.

Written by Heidi Schreck and directed by Yasen Peyankov, the show features Francis Guinan and Tim Hopper as Frog, Mariann Mayberry as Shelley, Brittany Uomoleale as Emma, and Victor Almanzar as Oscar.

The creative team includes Joey Wade (set design), Natasha Dukich (costume design), Scott Zielinski (lighting design), Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen (original music and sound design), and Laura D. Glenn (stage manager).

Performances will run through August 30.
