Constellations Set to Light Up Steppenwolf Stage

Performances of Nick Payne's Constellations start tonight at Steppenwolf Theatre.
The show begins when Roland, a beekeeper, meets Marianne, a theoretical physicist, at a party. That single encounter opens up a world of possibilities for their futures either together or apart. In one world, they may forge a meaningful relationship and live happily ever after. In another they may break up or encounter tragic illness or not even forge a relationship at all to begin with. With each new decision comes a new set of possible outcomes resulting in a myriad of possible lifetimes. With eloquence and wit, the show asks audiences to truly experience the richness of being alive in the universe.
Written by British playwright Nick Payne, the show is directed by Jonathan Berry and features Jon Michael Hill as Roland and Jessie Fisher as Marianne.
"Constellations is a play that has been on my radar for some time," says Berry. "It's a beautiful navigation of all that is extraordinarily complex and imminently possible within a human relationship. I can’t imagine a better place to explore this work than at Steppenwolf, where the focus can so fully be on the work of the two actors in this intimate space," shares Berry.
The creative team includes Joe Schermoly (set design), Izumi Inaba (costume design), Heather Gilbert (lighting design), Christopher Kriz (original music and sound design), and Christine D. Freeburg (stage manager).
Performances will run through July 3.
