Executive Director Walter Stearns has announced the 2014 season of productions coming to Chicago’s Mercury Theater. The Hypocrites Theater Company will open the season with the fairy tale-inspired musical Into the Woods, featuring a Tony-winning score by Stephen Sondheim and a Tony-winning book by James Lapine. The production will run from February 6-March 30, 2014.

Next in the lineup will be the professional Chicago premiere of Avenue Q — the Tony Award-winning coming-of-age musical, centered around a troupe of foul-mouthed puppets. The show, featuring a Tony-winning score by Roberts Lopez and Jeff Marx and a Tony-winning book by Jeff Whitty, will run from April-June 2014.

A production of The Addams Family — The Musical will follow with a run from September-November 16, 2014. Based on the classic macabre family unit, created by American cartoonist Charles Addams, the musical features a Tony-nominated score by Andrew Lippa and a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice.

The Christmas Schooner will then return to the Chicago theater for its annual holiday run, telling the story of the first Christmas tree ship, and the people who risked their lives traveling from Michigan's Upper Peninsula to Chicago in 1912 in the midst of a terrible storm. With a score by Julie Shannon and a book by John Reeger, the show is scheduled to run from November 26-December 28, 2014.
