The Lookingglass Theatre Company, located inside Chicago’s Water Tower Works, will present Ed Schmidt’s Mr. Rickey Calls a Meeting, January 4-February 19, 2012. J. Nicole Brooks will direct the production.

Set in 1947, the play centers on Branch Rickey, General Manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, as he approaches Jackie Robinson to play as the Major League’s first black ballplayer. That era’s biggest African American personalities – boxer Joe Louis, entertainer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, and actor Paul Robeson – will all play a key role in changing the future of America’s national pastime.

The cast will include Kevin Douglas (Clancy Hope), Anthony Fleming III (Joe Louis), Javon Johnson (Jackie Robinson), James Vincent Meredith (Paul Robeson), Larry Neumann, Jr. (Branch Rickey), and Ernest Perry (Bill “Bojangles” Robinson).
