David Pittsinger will play Emile de Becque in the Chicago engagement of the national tour of South Pacific, November 24-29. The production will be presented at the Rosemont Theatre in Rosemont, Illinois. As on Broadway, Bartlett Sher will direct.

The national tour opened in San Francisco with Rod Gilfry in the role of Emile de Becque. Pittsinger played the part on Broadway during original star Paolo Szot’s scheduled vacation, and most recently portrayed Angelotti in Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera. According to a spokesperson for the show, Pittsinger will join the tour prior to its run in Chicago, although exactly when has not yet been announced. Additionally, Gilfry will return to the role at some unspecified time, and he, Pittsinger, and a third actor not yet named will alternate in the role of Emile for different engagements of the South Pacific tour, partially dependent upon the performers’ previous commitments.

The touring cast also includes Carmen Cusack (Nellie Forbush), Anderson Davis (Lt. Cable), Matthew Saldivar (Luther Billis), Keala Settle (Bloody Mary), Gerry Becker (Capt. Brackett), Peter Rini (Cmdr. Harbison), Sumie Maeda (Liat), Rusty Ross (Professor), Genson Blimline (Stewpot), Christina Carrera (Ngana), and CJ Palma (Jerome). The ensemble will include Christopher Carl, Eric L. Christian, Jacqueline Colmer, Mike Evairste, Kate Fahrner, Nicholas Galbraith, Alexis G.B. Holt, Chad Jennings, Christopher Johnstone, Kristie Kerwin, Jodi Kimura, Joe Langworth, Maxine Linehan, Diane Phelan, John Pinto Jr, Travis Robertson, Josh Rouah, Tally Sessions, Kristen J. Smith, Matt Stokes, Gregory Williams, and Victor Wisehart.

The production features musical staging by Christopher Gattelli, set design by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Donald Holder, sound by Scott Lehrer, and music direction by Ted Sperling.
