David Cromer to Direct Chicago Production of Rent

Award-winning director David Cromer will helm a Chicago production of the musical, Rent, co-produced by American Theater Company (ATC) and About Face Theatre, to open at ATC on June 7, 2012.

Jonathan Larson’s 1996 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning rock opera is se at the end of the 1980’s, as a group of Bohemian artists struggle to find life, love and art in a brutal economy and the height of the AIDS crisis.

Cromer’s Broadway directing credits include The House of Blue Leaves and Brighton Beach Memoirs, and he is at work on a Broadway-bound production of the musical Yank! He is a 2010 MacArthur Foundation Fellow, with other notable credits including Lincoln Center’s production of When the Rain Stops Falling, for which he won a Lortel Award; the long-running production of Our Town, for which he received Lortel and Obie Awards; and Adding Machine: A Musical, for which he also received Lortel and Obie Awards.
