Church Basement Ladies, a new musical comedy set to make its Chicago premiere at The North Shore Center for Performing Arts, September 10-27, will offer the public a chance to nominate their favorite, “Church Basement Lady.”

During the contest, August 8-September 10, people are invited to submit a 150 word essay to nominate the special woman in their congregation who always goes the extra mile to serve others. The winner of the “Church Basement Lady of the Year” Contest will win a chance to meet the show’s star, William Christopher, and dinner for two at Geja’s Café. The winner and two runners up will also receive two complimentary tickets to the production.

Directed by Curt Wollan, Church Basement Ladies is a celebration of the church basement kitchens and the unsung women who work there. In addition to Christopher, the production stars Margaret Curry, Stella Fasonello, Jean Liuzzi, and Karen Pappas. The creative team will include Mark Brodin (sound and video design), Jerod Paul Grohs (set design), Wendy Short Hays (choreography), Scott R. Herbst (lighting/scenic design), Drew Jansen (musical direction), and Beth Nistler (costume design).

Evanston native Christopher played “Father Mulcahy” for 11 years on the hit TV series M*A*S*H. Stage credits include The Hostage and The Odd Couple.
