The Merry Widow Replaces Taming of the Shrew in Joffrey Ballet’s Chicago Season

Ronald Hynd’s full-length ballet of The Merry Widow will replace John Cranko’s The Taming of the Shrew in the Joffrey Ballet’s 2010-2011 Chicago season at the Auditorium Theatre.

The Merry Widow, which is set to John Lanchbery’s adaptation of Franz Lehar’s score for the operetta of the same title, will run February 16-27. The production will use sets and costumes by Italian designer Roberta Guidi Di Bagno.

As previously announced, the Joffrey season will also include Christopher Wheeldon’s After the Rain, George Balanchine’s Stravinsky Violin Concerto and Robert Joffrey’s staging of The Nutcracker, among others.
