Jim Lasko, Former Redmoon Artistic Director, New Artist-in-Residence at Office of Tourism

Jim Lasko, former artistic director of Chicago’s Redmoon Theater, has been appointed as the first artist-in-residence at Chicago’s Office of Tourism. Lasko stepped down from Redmoon last year, saying that he wanted to pursue other projects.

In his new position, Lasko will be overseeing a large-scale public event, which, according to press materials, “will reveal all of Chicago’s great diversity and cultural life. It promises to capture the imagination of our city, while creating a compelling reason for visitors from around the world to come here.”

Lasko’s work at Redmoon seems to have uniquely positioned him for this new job. At the theater, he created numerous original public spectacles and theatrical works in site-specific locations, and in 2004, his group was invited by Chicago’s Mayor Daley to perform at the opening ceremonies for the city’s Millennium Park.
