David Cromer and Tim Hooper are among the artists who will take part in Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s 4th annual First Look Repertory of New Work, featuring three developmental productions of new plays presented in rotation and accompanied by a series of events around the development of new work, July 23-August 10.

Keith Huff’s play, Pursued by Happiness, will be directed by Tim Hopper and feature Thomas Joseph Carroll, Kat McDonnell, Paul Noble, and Barbara E. Robertson, July 23-August 10. Huff’s romantic comedy centers on an unexpected meeting between two 40-something biochemists that touches off a whirlwind romance. With David Cromer at the helm, Perfect Mendacity by Jason Wells will feature Scott Aiello, Tim Curtis, Matt DeCaro, Aaron Todd Douglas, and Liza Fernandez. When a top secret, internal memo from a scientific research facility is leaked to the media, Dr. Walter Kreutzer is forced to take a lie detector test about its origins which gets him tangled up in investigations of bioterrorism and racially motivated killings.

Finally, Sarah Gubbins’ romantic comedy, Fair Use, will be directed by Meredith McDonough and feature Michele Graff, Brian King, Steven Marzolf, Kelli Simpkins, and Halena Starr Kays, July 25-August 10. A plagiarism case involving a famous author is the backdrop for this romantic comedy set in a high-powered law firm. The designers for all three productions are Kevin Depinet (sets), Debbie Baer (costumes), Charles Cooper (lights), and Joseph Fosco (sound).
