Ann Hampton Callaway, Andrew Lippa, Lari White Set for Northwestern’s SummerStage Programming

Northwestern University has announced plans for its 2012 SummerStage season, which will run June 22-July 30.

The season will kick off on June 22 with the seventh annual Johnny Mercer Foundation Songwriters Project “Songwriters Showcase,” a celebration of new writers in pop, folk, hip-hop, country, Latin and music theater, hosted by Craig Carnelia, Andrew Lippa, and Lari White.

Next, the weekend will conclude with The Johnny Mercer Foundation Songwriters Project “Celebration Concert” at (June 23 at 8 pm), honoring Academy Award-winning lyricist and songwriter Johnny Mercer and featuring Tony-nominated Broadway star Ann Hampton Callaway along with Carnelia, Lippa, and White.

The season will continue with two National Theatre Live broadcasts of the stage production of Frankenstein (June 29 and 30), starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller and directed by Danny Boyle. 2011 Dance Chicago Choreographer of the Year and Northwestern faculty member Billy Siegenfeld will direct Jump Rhythm Jazz Project (June 29 and 30) for two exuberant evenings of dance.

Then, Jeff Award-winner Dominic Missimi will direct a grand salute to Broadway musical great Richard Rodgers, “With a Song in My Heart: The Music of Richard Rodgers” (July 13-29) by David Fiorello. In tandem with revue, there will be a Rodgers and Hammerstein mini-film series featuring the Oscar-winning musical Oklahoma! at 7 pm on July 19 and the movie adaptation of South Pacific at 2 pm on July 28. The season will conclude with the musical Lyle the Crocodile (July 20-29), directed by Northwestern MFA directing student John Michael.
