Bill Charlap, Tom Paxton, Suzanne Vega, et al. Set for June 10 Symphony Center Concert

Suzanne Vega, who is currently starring Off-Broadway in Carson McCullers Talks About Love, will be among the headliners at a concert celebrating music of New York City, to be held at Chicago’s Symphony Center on Friday, June 10 at 8pm.

The evening will begin with Grammy Award-nominated jazz pianist Bill Charlap directing a journey through the music of the Roaring Twenties, Broadway, Ellington, Bernstein, Sinatra, and bebop. He will be joined by jazz vocalist Kurt Elling, clarinet great Ken Peplowski, Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, Jimmy Greene on tenor saxophone, Peter Washington on bass, and Kenny Washington on drums.

The second portion of the program will feature Vega with band members Gerry Leonard, guitar; Mike Visceglia, bass; and Graham Hawthorne, drums. She will be joined by singer-songwriter Richard Julian and legendary folk singer Tom Paxton in a set celebrating the New York folk scene of the 1950s, ’60s, and beyond.
