Liz Callaway, Capathia Jenkins, Lin-Manuel Miranda, et al. Set for Summer Music Theatre Festival

The complete line-up has been announced for the Summer Music Theatre Festival, to be held at the Theatre and Interpretation Center at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Several events are being presented in conjunction with the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project. Craig Carnelia, Lin- Manuel Miranda, and Lari White will be featured in the Master Teacher Cabaret, The Legacy of Johnny Mercer, on June 24 at 8pm. There will also be a Songwriters Showcase, June 26 at 8pm, featuring the works of emerging songwriters from across the country. Liz Callaway and Capathia Jenkins will join Carnelia, Miranda, White, and others for a Johnny Mercer Celebration Concert June 27 at 8 pm. Dominic Missimi will direct.

Girls vs. Boys, a new musical directed by Nathan Allen, will be presented July 10-August 2. It features music by Kevin O’Donnell with Nathan Allen, book and lyrics by Chris Mathews, Jake Minton and Nathan Allen and choreography by Tommy Rapley. Missimi will direct the classic musical, Bye Bye Birdie, July 24-August 9, with choreography by Rachel Rockwell.

The festival will also include Diva! Diva! Divas! (August 3 and 4), featuring Hollis Resnik, Alene Robertson and Paula Scrofano, directed by Missimi and featuring music director Doug Peck. There will also be a reading of the new musical The Doctor in Spite of Himself, by Tony Award-winning composer Sheldon Harnick on August 8.
