This big-dreaming musical isn't on Broadway yet, but the musical adaptation of the 2003 film Big Fish, by Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family) and John August (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), is on its way. The Broadway-bound production, helmed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (The Producers), begins its pre-Broadway previews at Chicago's Oriental Theatre tonight, April 2, and will continue through May 5.

The new musical, which is set for a Broadway opening on October 6 at Neil Simon Theatre stars two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz (Catch Me If You Can) and Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin (Giant) as well as Baldwin's Giant castmates Bobby Steggert and Katie Thompson. The cast also features Krystal Joy Brown (Leap Of Faith), Zachary Unger (Chaplin), Ryan Andes, Ben Crawford, J.C. Montgomery, Brad Oscar, Kirsten Scott, and Sarrah Strimel.

Big Fish is based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the 2003 film of the same name. It is a modern fable about a father and son with stories of epic and largely unbelievable proportions told by Edward Bloom. When Bloom's final chapter approaches, his son, Will, frequently frustrated by his father's stories, embarks on his own journey to find out who his father truly is.
