Chicago Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew to Feature New Scenes Written by Neil LaBute

Tony nominee Neil LaBute has contributed new framing scenes for the Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s production of The Taming of the Shrew, which plays April 14-June 6. Josie Rourke directs.
LaBute’s scenes replace the seldomly performed Christopher Sly Induction, and instead creates a framing sequence in which a 21st century acting company that is performing The Taming of the Shrew respond to issues that the play evokes in their own lives.
Bianca Amato and Ian Bedford star as Katharina and Petruchio, with the cast also including Sean Fortunato (Hortensio), Mike Nussbaum (Gremio), Brian Sills (Tranio), Larry Yando (Baptista), Stephen Ouimette (Grumio), Katherine Cunningham (Bianca), William Dick (Stage Manager), Mary Beth Fisher (Director), Alex Goodrich (Biondello), Marc Grapey (Vincentio), Erik Hellman (Lucentio), Steven Pringle (Pedant), Matthew Sherbach (Curtis), Karen Janes Woditsch (Widow), and ensemble members Tim Gittings and Terry Hamilton.
The creative team will include scenic and dostume Designer Lucy Osborne, lighting designer Philip S. Rosenberg, sound designer Lindsay Jones, wig and makeup designer Melissa Veal, properties master Chelsea Meyers, and fight choreographer Matt Hawkins.
