Scott Parkinson to Play Hamlet for Writers’ Theatre; 2012-13 Season Announced

Writers’ Theatre has announced the works that it will present during the 2012-2013 season.

The company’s artistic director Michael Halberstam will stage the theater’s first offering for the year, Shakespeare’s Hamlet, running September 4 – November 11. The company will feature Scott Parkinson in the title role, along with Shannon Cochran (Gertrude), Michael Canavan (Claudius), Liesel Matthews (Ophelia), Kareem Bandealy (Horatio), Julian Parker (Rosencrantz) and Witold Huzior (Fortinbras). Additional casting will be announced in the near future.

Halberstam will also helm a production of Sweet Charity (January 22 – March 31), which will have choreography by Jessica Redish, and musical direction by Doug Peck, who will re-imagine the Cy Coleman score for a jazz trio.

The Writers’ Theatre season will also include John W. Lowell’s The Letters (October 30 – February 17), directed by Kimberly Senior, David Greig’s Yellow Moon (April 2 – July 21), to be directed by Stuart Carden; and David Ives’ The Liar (May 21 – July 28), an adaptation of the comedy by Pierre Corneille, to be directed by William Brown.
