Gary Griffin to Direct Sunday in the Park With George for Chicago Shakespeare; 2012-2013 Season Announced

The Chicago Shakespeare Theatre (CST) has announced its schedule for the 2012-2013 season.

The theater will present both Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar (February 5 – March 24), directed by Jonathan Munby, and Henry VIII (April 30 – June 16, 2013), directed by Barbara Gaines in the coming year. In addition, the Bard’s work will be represented with Short Shakespeare! Romeo and Juliet (February 23 – March 23), a 75-minute abridged production of Shakespeare’s tragic romance presented to student groups and family audiences. CST will also present a world premiere pedestrian-based live art event, inspired by Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, and created in association with Australia’s one step at a time like this (en route).

Also on the company’s schedule are new productions of Disney’s Beauty and the Beart (June 28 – August 26), to be directed by Rachel Rockwell; and Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Sunday in the Park With George (September 26 – November 4), to be directed by Gary Griffin. CST will also produce The School for Lies, David Ives’ new version of Moliere’s The Misanthrope, to be directed by Gaines and run December 4 – January 20.

For its World’s Stage programming, the company’s plans include not only the previously announced presentation of Simon Callow in Jonathan Bate’s Being Shakespeare, to run April 18-29, but also A History of Everything, from Belgium’s Ontroerend Goed (May 25 – June 3), and two offerings from the National Theatre of Scotland: David Greig’s The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart (September 26 – October 14), and Gregory Burke’s Black Watch (October 10-21).
