Bill Cain, Sean Graney, Chay Yew Set for Victory Gardens’ 2012-2013 Season

Victory Gardens Theater has announced its 2012-2013 season.

The company’s first production will be Bill Cain’s Equivocation (September 14 – October 14). Sean Graney will direct this play that centers on a playwright known as “Shagspeare” attempting to write a play promoting the government’s version of Guy Fawkes’ treasonous Gunpowder Plot.

Also on the Victory Gardens slate for the year is the world premiere of Philip Dawkins’ look at the final year in three sisters’ lives, Failure: A Love Story (November 16 – December 30), to be directed by Seth Bockley; the American premiere of Anupama Chandraskhar’s exploration of the worlds of employees of call centers in both the U.S. and India, Disconnect (January 25 – February 24, to be directed by Dexter Bullard; and Samuel D. Hunter’s portrait of an ill man attempting to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter, The Whale, to be directed by Joanie Schultz.


Chay Yew will direct the final offering in the company’s coming season, Marcus Gardley’s Chicago Is Burning (May 31 – June 30), which unfolds in the underground ball competitions where anyone in the African American and Latino, gay and transgender subculture can be a star or a supermodel for one night.
