Timeline Theatre Company Announces 2008-2009 Season

Timeline Theatre Company has announced its selections for its 2008-2009 season.

The season will begin with Gore Vidal’s Weekend, to be presented August 20-October 12. Damon Kiely will direct this comedy, set during the 1968 presidential campaign, involving a Republican Senator who is about to announce his candidacy for his party’s nomination when his son arrives with shocking — and potentially politically damaging — news.

Next up will be the Chicago premiere of Thomas Gibbons’ A House With No Walls, to be directed by Louis Contey, October 29-December 21. This inspired-by-real-life drama is about two African-Americans on opposite sides of a debate regarding George Washington’s Philadelphia home and slave quarters.

The world premiere of Masha Obolensky’s Not Enough Air will follow, to be directed by Nick Bowling, January 21-March 22. This drama imagines the process by which famed journalist-turned-playwright Sophie Treadwell created her landmark work, the 1928 play Machinal — itself inspired by the sensational trial of one of the first American women electrocuted for murder.

The season will conclude with the Chicago premiere of The History Boys, by Alan Bennett, to be directed by Nick Bowling, April 22-June 21. The recipient of more than 30 major awards, including Tony and Olivier awards for Best New Play, the play follows a rambunctious group of clever young men as they pursue higher learning, games, sexual identity and a place at university under the guidance of three wildly different teachers and a headmaster obsessed with results.
