Chicago Opera Theater Announces 2009 Spring Festival Season

Chicago Opera Theater’s 2009 Spring Festival season will include three new productions of operas long neglected in the Chicago area.

The spring season will start with Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito (April 18-May 1), directed by Diane Paulus, with Jane Glover conducting. The piece will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. La tragédie de Carmen (May 2-15) is an adaptation of George Bizet’s Carmen by Marius Constant, Peter Brook, and Jean-Claude Carrière. Directed by Andrew Eggert, Alexander Platt will conduct this production, which will be sung in French with English supertitles.

The Festival season will end with Benjamin Britten’s Owen Wingrave (May 16-26), directed by Ken Cazan, with Steuart Bedford conducting. It will be sung in English with English supertitles.
