The Goodman Theatre has announced its 2012-2013 season, which will consist of eight productions, including a new stage musical version of Disney’s animated feature The Jungle Book. Mary Zimmerman has adapted the film and will direct the production, which will run June 21- July 28 in the company’s Albert Theatre.

The season in the Albert Theatre will begin with a revival of Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth (September 15 – October 22). David Cromer will direct this play that centers on the improbable relationship between Princess Kosmonopolis (née Alexandra Del Lago), a Hollywood legend fleeing the disastrous premiere of her latest epic, and Chance Wayne, a young actor-turned gigolo.

Other productions slated for the Albert are Jon Robin Baitz’s Other Desert Cities (January 12 – February 17), to be directed by Henry Wishcamper; and Lynn Nottage’s By the Way, Meet Vera Stark (April 27 – June 2), to be directed by Chuck Smith, as well as one additional production to be announced shortly.

In addition, the company will produce the world premiere of Dael Orlandersmith’s Black n Blue Boys/Broken Men in its Owen Theatre, to run September 29 – October 28. Chay Yew will direct the solo show to be performed by its writer.

The Owen Theatre schedule will also include the world premieres of Christopher Shinn’s Teddy Ferrra (February 2 – March 3), to be directed by Evan Cabnet, and Quiara Alegria Hudes’ The Happiest Song Plays Last (April 13 – May 12).
