Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper’s musical Kinky Boots will play the Bank of America Theatre in October 2012. Jerry Mitchell will direct and choreograph the production.

With music and lyrics by Lauper and a book by Fierstein, the show, based on the 2005 British film of the same name, centers on how Charlie Price works to save his family’s shoe factory in Northern England, following the sudden death of his father, enlisting the help of a fabulous drag performer named Lola.

Lauper’s many hits include “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” and “True Colors.” In addition, she appeared on Broadway in The Threepenny Opera. As a writer, Fierstein has won Tony Awards for his play Torch Song Trilogy and for his book for the musical La Cage Aux Folles. Among his other writing credits are the books for A Catered Affair and the forthcoming Newsies.
