Adventure Stage Announces Cast, Creative Team for Katrina: The Girl Who Wanted Her Name Back

Adventure Stage Chicago has announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Jason Tremblay’s Katrina: The Girl Who Wanted Her Name Back, set to play at the Vittum Theater, April 5-May 9. Tom Arvetis will direct, with musical direction by Colby Beserra.

Featuring a live, six-piece jazz band, Tremblay’s work follows Katrina, a young girl from New Orleans forced to face the powerful hurricane that shares her name to reclaim it, and recover the magic and fire that lie within the city and herself.

The cast will feature Shakira Lavonne Carter as Katrina, Eugene Parker as Big Daddy, Peter Verdico as Thibeaux, Carolyn Nelson as Beulah, Dan Cox as Stalebread, B. Diego Colon as Gustavo, and Amber Starr Friendly as Apparition. The jazz band is comprised of Nick Brodste (trombone), Nate Lepine (saxophone/clarinet), Scott Anderson (trumpet), Mikhail Fiksel (keyboard), and Rick Vitek (drums).

The creative team will include Mikhail Fiksel (composer/sound design), Jesse Klug (lighting design), Jessica Kuehnau (costume design), and Courtney O’Neill (scenic design).
