Porchlight Musical Theatre 08-09 Season Announced

Porchlight Musical Theatre has announced selections for its 2008-2009 season. Dubbed a season of musical journeys, all productions will be performed at the Theatre Building Chicago.

The season will open with Candide (September 13-November 2), which centers on an optimistic character that travels the world and becomes disillusioned by what he experiences. The book is by Hugh Wheeler, with music by Leonard Bernstein, and lyrics by John Latouche, Richard Wilbur, and Stephen Sondheim.

Next, Porchlight will transport audiences to Japan with Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s Pacific Overtures (March 14-May 3), a depiction of the nation’s first contact with America through the modern age.

The season will culminate in the Carribean with Once on This Island (May 9-June 28), Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahern’s recasting of The Little Mermaid on a Carribean Island.
