Victory Gardens Theater will host a free, open to the public, rehearsal of its latest world premiere play, Living Green, at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, Thursday, January 15 at 6 pm.

Gloria Bond Clunie’s play tackles the issues facing an African-American family living in a mostly white Chicago suburb who are contemplating a move back to the old neighborhood. Andrea J. Dymond will direct the production, which will run January 23-March 1, with an opening set for February 2.

As previously announced, the cast will feature Melanie E. Brezill (Shondra), Corey Marshall Cantrell (Buddy), Aurelia Clunie (Carol Freeman), Ann Joseph (Angela Freeman), Kenn E. Head (Frank Freeman), Samuel G. Roberson, Jr. (Dempsey Freeman), and Cedric Young (Mr. Parks). The creative team will include Mary Badger (lighting design), Mikhail Fiksel (sound design), Mary Griswold (set design), and Judith Lundberg (costume design).

The open rehearsal presentation will be followed by a talkback about the characters, plots, and themes of the play with the playwright, director, and cast. There will also be a post-rehearsal reception in the Biograph lobby, courtesy of Zig Zag Café.
