Cast Set for Porchlight Music Theatre’s Pacific Overtures

Full casting has been announced for Porchlight Music Theatre’s production of the Stephen Sondheim-John Weidman musical Pacific Overtures, to play Theatre Building Chicago, March 15-May 2, with an opening on March 18. Walter Stearns will direct, with music direction by Eugene Dizon.

The musical tells the story of the painful westernization of Japan through the eyes of two friends. Songs include “Someone in a Tree” and “A Bowler Hat.”

The all-Asian-American cast will star David Rhee as the Reciter, Kent Haina as the Samuri Manjiro, and Danny Bernardo as the fisherman Kayama. The ensemble will include Chelsea Dolinar-Hikawa, Adrian Fontanilla, Jillian Anne Jocson, Erik Kaiko, Chip Payos, Nick Shoda, Peter Sipla, and Keith Uchima.

The production will feature choreography by Brenda Didier, costume design by Carol J. Blanchard, scenic design by Kurt Sharp, and lighting design by John Horan.
