Black Ensemble’s Joe Tex Revue Delays Due to Flooding

The Black Ensemble Theater’s production of the musical revue I Gotcha, The Story of Joe Tex and the Soul Clan has delayed its first preview to January 31, with an opening set for February 8.

According to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times, the delay was caused by flooding in the theater’s home at the Hull Center for Arts and Culture which caused pipes in the building to freeze and burst. The show’s set was damaged, as was the electrical system in the building.

I Gotcha is written by David Barr III and Joe Plummer, with direction by Jackie Taylor. It includes classic Joe Tex songs such as “Hold On To What You Got,” “Skinny Legs and All,” and “I Gotcha,” as well as songs by The Soul Clan: Wilson Pickett (“The Midnight Hour” and “364-5789”), Ben E. King (“Stand By Me” and “This Magic Moment”), and Solomon Burke (“Cry To Me”).
