Full Cast, Creative Team Set for Carter’s Way at Steppenwolf

Full cast and creative team are set for Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s production of Carter’s Way, written and directed by Oscar-winning ensemble member Eric Simonson, with original jazz music by Darrell Leonard. The production will play the Steppenwolf Downstairs Theatre, February 28-April 27, with an opening set for March 8.

Set in 1935 Kansas City, the play is about a black saxophonist on the cusp of becoming a radio star, who falls in love with the white girlfriend of a local mobster.

The cast will include ensemble members Robert Breuler, K. Todd Freeman, Ora Jones and James Vincent Meredith, with Anne Adams, Calvin Dutton, Curtis M. Jackson, Keith Kupferer, Danny McCarthy and Michael Pogue. The creative team will include Neil Patel (sets), Karin Kopischke (costumes), Keith Parham (lights), and Barry Funderburg (sound).

Simonson received a Tony nomination for his direction of The Song of Jacob Zulu. He received an Oscar for Best Documentary Short for A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin.
