The English-born Simon Jones, an ubiquitous presence on the New York stage, is perhaps most widely recognized as Arthur Dent in the 1981 TV cult classic The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The role was written for him by author Douglas Adams, who was a fellow member of Cambridge University's legendary Footlights Club. In addition, Jones has recorded all of the radio series versions of Hitchhiker's Guide, and he made a cameo appearance in the 2005 film version. He is also fondly remembered for the role of Bridey in the 1981 miniseries Brideshead Revisited. Off-Broadway, Jones is co-artistic director of The Actor's Company Theatre (TACT), with whom he has starred in acclaimed productions of Home and the world premiere of Noël Coward's Long Island Sound. Other major off-Broadway credits include Woman in Mind with Stockard Channing and a Drama Desk nomination for the 1990 revival of Privates on Parade. His Broadway appearances include the current revival of Blithe Spirit, Waiting in the Wings with Lauren Bacall, Ring Round the Moon, The Herbal Bed, The Real Inspector Hound/The 15-Minute Hamlet, Private Lives with Joan Collins, and Benefactors. His Broadway debut was in the original New York production of The Real Thing.
